Frequently Asked Questions

What is RackLog?

RackLog is a private climbing gear tracker for iPhone and Apple Watch. Log manufacture dates, use, inspections, and retirement for your rack, see statuses according to the dates and counts you entered, and export a PDF Gear Book. It is a record-keeping app — not an inspection, certification, or substitute for manufacturer instructions.

Does RackLog tell me if my gear is safe?

No. RackLog never certifies safety. Statuses such as OK, Inspect due, Retire due, and Incomplete reflect your entered dates and counts. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and replace gear when in doubt.

What is Unlock Full Inventory?

RackLog is free for up to 8 pieces of gear. Unlock Full Inventory is a one-time non-consumable in-app purchase that removes the piece limit for life on your Apple ID. It does not include a subscription.

How do I restore purchases?

Open Settings → Restore Purchases, or tap Restore on the Full Inventory paywall. Use the same Apple ID that made the purchase.

How does hangtag / label scan work?

Use the camera to scan a hangtag or label. On-device vision extracts serial, brand, model, and dates when readable. Review and edit fields on the confirmation sheet before saving. You can always add gear manually.

What is an active rack?

An active rack is the set of gear you are climbing on today. Log a session on iPhone or Apple Watch to record use against that rack in a couple of taps.

How do inspections and retirement work?

Record dated inspections with notes and photos. Mark results as keep, watch, or retire. Retired pieces move to your archive. RackLog documents what you recorded — it does not perform a professional inspection.

How does the PDF Gear Book export work?

Share a PDF Gear Book with a cover disclaimer, table of active items, and a retired appendix. Use the iOS share sheet to save, print, or send to a gym, club, or insurer. You control who receives it.

Does RackLog work on Apple Watch?

Yes. Log sessions and see due counts from your wrist. The Watch is a companion surface — your iPhone remains the primary place for photos and detailed edits.

Is my data private?

Your gear inventory, inspection notes, and photos are stored on your devices — not on a Verilune account or cloud database. Hangtag scanning runs on your iPhone. We do not sell your personal information. When you export a PDF Gear Book or email support, you choose what to share. Read the RackLog Privacy Policy for the full picture.

Are there ads or subscriptions?

No ads and no subscription. RackLog is free for up to 8 pieces of gear. If you need more, Unlock Full Inventory is an optional one-time App Store purchase on your Apple ID — it is not monthly or yearly, and it does not auto-renew.

Troubleshooting

Full Inventory purchase or restore

  • Use the same Apple ID that purchased Unlock Full Inventory
  • Settings → Restore Purchases, or Restore on the paywall
  • Contact us with the Apple ID email used for the purchase if restore still fails (do not send passwords)

Hangtag scan

  • Grant camera access when prompted
  • Hold the tag flat with even lighting; glare can reduce accuracy
  • Review extracted fields before saving — OCR is a starting point, not a guarantee
  • Use manual entry if the tag is worn or unreadable

Apple Watch

  • Install RackLog on your Watch from the Watch app on iPhone
  • Ensure both devices are unlocked and in range for sync
  • Log session from the Watch complication or app; undo is available immediately after logging

PDF Gear Book

  • Export from the Gear Book tab or piece detail share actions
  • The PDF includes the legal disclaimer on the cover — required for every export
  • Retired items appear in the appendix when included in export scope
